Student Policies

Make-Ups and Cancellations

  • No make-up lessons are scheduled for student-initiated cancellations. In case of an illness, make-up consideration will be given.

  • Teachers will make up a lesson they cancel at a mutually convenient time.

  • Multiple absences, or unpaid lessons for three consecutive weeks will result in losing your regular lesson time. There is a 30-days required notice for discontinuing lessons. The final bill will include the tuition for last month of lessons; e. g., for students who have given discontinuation notice on April 1, the final bill will run through April 30.

Health & Safety

  • Please do not bring sick children to lessons. This will help stop the spread of seasonal illnesses such as flu. Contact your teacher if your child is sick to ensure a make-up lesson. If the student arrives to the lesson sick, the teacher reserves the right not to hold the lesson.

  • In case of inclement weather, contact your teacher to see if a lesson will be taught in-person or online.

 Good Practices

  • All books and materials must be brought to the lesson each week. Students who come without books or instruments cannot be taught.

  • Students should arrive to their lessons at least five minutes early. A late start means a shorter lesson; it is the student’s responsibility to make sure they receive their entire allotted lesson time.

  • Nails should be trimmed before lesson, as appropriate to the instrument. Hands should be always kept clean.

  • Consistent practice is crucial to the student’s progress and success. Your teacher’s instructions for at-home practice should be taken seriously and become part of the weekly schedule. Each student is expected to practice at least five days a week. Details on the practice routine will be provided by your teacher.

  • The SMMA has the right to use students’ names, photos and videos in promotional and educational materials.

  • Please check the SMMA 2023-2024 calendar for holidays, breaks, recital dates etc.

The acceptance of these policies is confirmed by the payment of the tuition.
